On March 15, 2016 CER experts hosted a meeting with the representatives of the Centre for Policy Analysis and Development on Asia-Pacific and African Regions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Indonesia. The purpose of their visit was to discuss current economic situation in Uzbekistan, investment climate, as well as the development prospects of trade and economic cooperation between two countries.

During the meeting, the guests were informed of the CER's activities, key research areas and products. In their turn, the representatives of the Centre for Policy Analysis and Development noticed that the main purpose of their visit to Uzbekistan was to find out more about economic policy of the country.

When the new Government of Indonesia was formed, the Centre for Policy Analysis and Development started exploring the possibilities of strengthening the cooperation between Indonesia and other countries, including Central Asia region. Currently, they are conducting a research on the formation of the further cooperation policy, which will be presented to the senior management and the business community in Indonesia.

CER experts gave some information on the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan and future plans. Also, the participants of the meeting discussed such issues as logistics, transport and transit capacity of Uzbekistan, key economic partners and development of the infrastructure; in particular, the actions taken to develop transport infrastructure in the country. It was mentioned that Indonesia has considered Uzbekistan as a country with great transit capacity.

In general, both parties have come to conclusion that bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Indonesia is below the potential level. According the representatives of the Centre for Policy Analysis and Development, the development of tourism and culture cooperation could make a great contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations.
