New project of integrated urban and regional development

On May 11, 2016, a meeting with the World Bank Mission on Urban Portfolio, led by Ms. Rosanna Nitti, Senior Urban Specialist, took place at the Center for Economic Research. The aim of the meeting was to continue the discussion of the possible cooperation within the new project "Uzbekistan Sustainable Urban and Regional Development Programme."

The representatives of the World Bank has informed about receiving funding for conducting a research on a more integrated development of medium-sized cities in the country. The duration of the project is expected to be for 1.5-2 years approximately. During these years it is supposed to organize national and international round tables (including the countries of Central Asia and other regions), to conduct a research on more relevant issues of integrated development of the cities in Uzbekistan. The program of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank on cooperation in development of medium-sized cities should be formulated as a result of this project.

During the meeting, the World Bank Mission was interested in CER publications, which could be used in this project. In addition, it was discussed how better to start the implementation of the project from the point of view of timeline, key events, partnership with national agencies. Also, the participants of the meeting talked about possible involvement of CER into active participation in different stages of project implementation.
