The foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will gather in Tashkent on October 18-19, 2016.

This major annual event allows developing guidelines for the implementation of the general policies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations. It brings together 57 countries with a population of over 1.5 billion. Its main objective is the cooperation between Muslim states in the social, economic and political spheres, joint participation in activities on international arena, and achievement of sustainable development of the participating countries. 

The decision on the presidency of Uzbekistan in 2016 at the institute of the organization was taken in May 2015 at a meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Kuwait. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country – Abdulaziz Kamilov noted, Uzbekistan during the presidency of the Council of Foreign Ministers will serve to strengthen the role of the OIC as an effective and authoritative forum of Muslim countries, with special emphasis on the issues of strengthening cultural and humanitarian potential of the organization. The priorities of Uzbekistan's presidency in the OIC CFM include the development of scientific, technical, trade and investment cooperation of the participating states, the union of the efforts to combat the ideology of terrorism and extremism, as well as the expansion of the nuclear-free zones, in particular, the support of the idea to create nuclear-free zone in the Middle East.
