Opening ceremony of the Fifth annual photo-exhibition “Uzbekistan - the heart of Central Asia. Culture and development”

On March 12, 2010 the opening ceremony of the Fifth annual photo-exhibition “Uzbekistan - the heart of Central Asia. Culture and development” was held in the Tashkent House of Photography. The organizers of this traditional event are Editorial board of “Economic review” magazine, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the UN Representative in Uzbekistan. The aim of the photo-exhibition is in creating a propitious environment for cross-cultural dialog, better understanding among countries through reflecting foreigner’s unique viewpoint on Uzbekistan, its nation, traditions and culture.

The ceremony was opened with the welcome speech, made by the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan A. Shaykhov, UN Resident Representative Anita Nirody, as well as the Director of the “Economic review” magazine N.Mukhamedov. Among honorable guests of the ceremony are representatives of diplomatic corps, international organizations, accredited in Uzbekistan, as well as number of ministries, governmental organizations and mass media. Oriental melodies, performed by the group of national musicians, brought a special aura to the event.

The uniqueness of this photo-exhibition in its participants, who are only amateur photographers consisting of non-residents of the Republic of Uzbekistan. More than 220 works, prepared by the 54 participants from 25 countries were presented at the exhibition. These photos demonstrate that Uzbekistan has become the loved country for many of authors, as well as a place of fruitful cooperation between the East and the West.

The exhibition will be open till March 26, 2010.
