Presentation on “Urban Poverty” at the UNDP

On May 7, presentation on “Addressing Urban Poverty in Uzbekistan in the Context of the Economic Crisis” was held in the conference room of the UNDP Country office. The presentation took form of a Learning hour for representatives of the UNDP programme units and projects. The event aimed at presenting activity and preliminary results of the CER research project “Medium term vision of urbanization processes and regional development management”.

CER Research coordinator B.Ergashev presented a comprehensible analysis of facts and trends of urbanization process in Uzbekistan, in particular, the poverty of urban population in the country, last trends of the country economic development after the global financial crisis, as well as the issues of strengthening the role of the cities in economic modernization.

More than 20 representatives from the UNDP programme units and projects, such as “Democratic Governance”, “Poverty Reduction”, “Energy and environment” units, as well as “Human development”, “Public Finance reform”, and ELS projects expressed their interest in discussing on this urgent topic. All participants had an opportunity to ask questions and share their experience, knowledge and vision in this sphere.
