National Business Perception Index of 3rd quarter shows record increase

High activity rate of Uzbek business is observed in the 3rd quarter: a share of active part of business (with positive results comparing to previous quarter) exceeds the passive part (with negative results) for 27.7 percent. Current NBP Index is 12.2 percentage points higher than Index in the 2nd quarter of 2010 (17.5).

In addition, the Index is presented in the context of economic sectors, separate indicators, such as sales, profit, employment, salary, export / import, etc., as well as on each region. In October-December 2010 business is aimed even more optimistically: expected NBP Index is 34.4, which is higher for 6.7 points comparing to current quarter.

NBP Index is a joint initiative of CER and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan aimed at elaborating a toolkit for assessment and short-term forecasting of business activity dynamics. The NBP Index is calculated on the base of a survey of 545 enterprises from all 14 regions of Uzbekistan and covers 5 main sectors of economy – industry, agriculture, construction, transport and communications, trade.
