Entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan as a basis for formation of the middle class

From the beginning of 2000s, Uzbekistan started an active phase of the implementation of structural reforms aimed at industrialization and sustained economic growth. Particular attention is now paid to the development of industries which are the foundation of long-term economic growth because of thier export potential. The Government understands that investments in capital-intensive industries have little effect on job creation and income growth. Therefore, one of the priorities of economic policy has also become enabling positive environment for the development of small business and private entrepreneurship - a key source of generating new jobs.

Today, entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan are considered as a target group of the reforms and as a potential driving force in the transformation of the socio-economic and socio-political spheres. The role of business is directly linked to the issues of formation and expansion of such social layer as middle class. Analysis of the results allowed to reveal and to summarize the most typical socio-economic characteristics of entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan, which promote or prevent them from becoming the middle class.
