Main directions of pharmaceutical industry development in Uzbekistan (2009/03)
Publication year: 2009
Type: Policy Paper
Keywords: pharmaceutical industry, development
New tendency of the current redistribution process in the world market of pharmaceutical products triggered many developing countries to design medium- and long-term development strategies for the pharmaceutical industry. Uzbekistan also needs to elaborate a strategy plan for the development of its own pharmaceutical industry.
The analysis shows that compared with neighboring states, as well as many other developing countries, Uzbekistan has certain advantages, which can be integrated into medium-and long-term development strategy of domestic pharmaceutical industry. However, there are some obstacles to the full use of such advantages.
The study revealed the underuse of opportunities in this sector, particularly due to the lack of development strategy, clearly defined goals and tools, as well as measures of state support. Authors put the increasing competitiveness of domestic and foreign markets of pharmaceutical industry as the main goal of development strategy.
The report explores the current state of pharmaceutical industry, identifying obstacles for its development, as well as proposing policy approaches to development strategy in the medium and long term.
